Europe – In Germany as well as at the international level, research projects are being conducted in a bid to discover the whereabouts of a significant number of Europe’s ‘lost’ end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) – including 1.4 million in Germany alone and some 4.5 million across the EU. Several workshops have also been held on this subject.
The EU Commission will have until August 2017 to decide what it will do with the recommendations made by these studies and whether this advice will lead to changes in ELV legislation.
In other news, General Motors has predicted that as much as 15% of cars sold by 2030 will be electric vehicles. According to Lux Research, the EV battery recycling market will be worth ‘tens of billions of dollars’ by 2035.
