SITA signs up BHS for material recovery plants

United Kingdom – Recycling and resource management specialist SITA UK has selected Bulk Handling Systems (BHS) to design, manufacture and install four material recovery facilities in England. The proposed sites at Avonmouth, Birmingham, Darwen and South London are set to process over 250 000 tonnes of commercial recyclables a year.

This investment reflects SITA’€™s commitment to maintaining its position as a leading player in the domestic recycling market. According to the company’€™s Head of Infrastructure Development, Ben Harding, two of the new sites will be completed before the end of this year, with the remaining two following in 2013.

‘€˜The upcoming facilities will provide us with additional processing capacity in strategic areas across the UK, allowing us to improve our service offering to our customers,’€™ states Mr Harding, adding that this will eventually lead to ‘€˜the creation of many new jobs, both in their construction and long-term operation’€™.

Regarding the partnership with BHS, Mr Harding states: ‘€˜From the outset of this procurement, they have shown a key understanding of our key objectives in developing facilities that will allow us to recycle a wide range of materials, but also have the flexibility to upgrade them in the future should we wish to target different markets.’€™
