Sims Metals centralises non-ferrous trading and marketing

According to Jeremy Sutcliffe, Chief Executive of Sims Group Ltd, ’global coordination will enable Sims to provide unrivalled support to our worldwide consumers and other trading partners in these times of scarce and inconsistent scrap supply’. And he added: ’This will be achieved through a matrix of benefits, including continuity of raw material sourcing, quality and performance dependability, and flexibility on both spot and long-term supply contracts.’
Sims is one of the largest metals recycling companies in the world. It has operations in Australia, New Zealand, North America and the U.K. In addition, Sims International actively trades these commodities in North and South East Asia, India, the Middle East, Continental Europe, Africa and South America.
Veteran international non-ferrous scrap trader Michael Lion, President of Lion Consulting Inc., will coordinate the new centralised marketing entity’s operations. Mr Lion has been acting as an exclusive consultant to Sims Group USA for the last two years and is now retained in this role for the entire Sims Group. He will be working closely with Sims Group senior management on the strategic development of its international non-ferrous activities, as well as linking with Sims International General Manager Kumar Radhakrishnan in the development and enhancement of the division’s trading team.
Sims Group’s core activity is metal recycling, with an emerging business in recycling services. Headquartered in Australia, Sims earns 60% of its revenue from international operations in the U.K, North America, New Zealand and Asia. The company has over 2200 employees and an annual turnover of approximately US$ 1.02 billion.
