Saved by a whisker

Archiv – A shredder can chew up most things but, fortunately, some family pets appear immune to its raw power.A shredder can chew up most things but, fortunately, some family pets appear immune to its raw power. Take the example of a hamster now known as Mike which made the normally fatal mistake of straying into a consignment of material destined for processing at the Recyclo shredder operation in Sandycroft, North Wales.
The golden-coloured rodent survived his passage through not only the giant shredder but also a rotating drum and vibrating screens before being spotted in the downstream sorting area. The plant’s General Manager Tony Williams commented: ’It seems that the hamster was small enough to pass through the blades of the shredder, but big enough to pass along the trommel without falling through an aperture.’€™
Subsequently adopted by the son of one of Recyclo’€™s employees, this hairy experience left Mike with nothing more serious than a sore foot – and possibly a headache.
