The guidelines have been published by the Association of Cities & Regions for Recycling (ACRR), whose membership comprises more than 70 European cities and regions, and the plastics industry associations APME, ECVM, EuPC and EuPR.
According to ACRR, waste plastics have often been seen as difficult to recycle for technical or economic reasons and, as a result, they have often been among those waste fractions to be neglected when local authorities have been planning their recycling campaigns. However, as ACRR argues, waste plastics can and should be collected, recovered and recycled to an increasing extent when collection, sorting and economic issues can be managed appropriately. The ’Good Practices Guide on Waste Plastic Recycling, a Guide by and for Local and Regional Authorities’ seeks to help local authorities in this respect and aims to address many of the challenges faced by local authorities seeking to enhance the recovery of waste plastics locally and regionally.
