Major recycling contract for SITA UK

United Kingdom – SITA UK has taken over the operation of two household waste/recycling centres and a transfer facility at Walsall in central England. The seven-year contract is worth £10 million (Euro 12 million/US$ 16.7 million) and will take effect from April 1.

The Walsall sites handle around 100 000 tonnes of waste per year, including residual waste, co-mingled recyclables, green waste and street sweepings.

Around 16 000 tonnes is processed at the recycling centres while the remainder is handled at the transfer station. According to SITA UK, which is a subsidiary of French firm Suez Environnement, Walsall’s council is keen to see recycling rates increase and to reduce waste going to landfill.
