Leyland SDM, a leading decorating and do-it-yourself retail brand in central London, has appointed Reconomy to manage its waste and recycling services.
The company has 29 stores across prominent locations and its range includes more than 22 000 products. Reconomy, which provides outsourced resource management and recycling services in the UK, manages general waste, dry mixed recycling and baled cardboard across all branches.
In addition to the stores, Reconomy is managing the warehouse and has introduced a backhauling solution rather than a multi-operational programme that is considered to be less efficient and involves more vehicles and greater emissions. The companies note that bringing all services under one contract is already demonstrating cost savings. Having access to reporting through a single set of management information, they add, ‘lets the team see the impact changes are having to service performance’.
In addition to the day-to-day management of services, Reconomy has introduced segregation processes at source and ensured waste streams such a hazardous are handled, stored and dealt with appropriately. Fresh signage and on-site engagement was essential after changing the team previous processes .
‘It is great how quickly we have been able to identify and implement some quick wins so early on in the contract,’ says Stuart Liddell, account manager for Leyland SDM at Reconomy. ‘The team on-site have really got behind what we are trying to achieve and can see the benefits that will come, not only financially but environmentally too. We are excited about building a great relationship with the team and bringing value in the form of our thorough on-site management, experience and knowledge.’
Yousef Abdulla, transport supervisor at Leyland SDM, says they are ‘delighted’ to have Reconomy’s support and guidance on recycling and waste management. ‘We can see real benefit in bringing in an expert partner who can introduce positive change for the business. With Reconomy’s experience working across the group already we are excited to see what tried and tested processes we can adopt that will give us immediate enhancements to the way we work.’
