JFE Wierec turns shredder residue into fuel

Japan – Co-operation between Switzerland-based engineering firm Wiederkehr and steel producer JFE from Yokohama in Japan has resulted in a new plant which converts shredder residue into fuel for the latter’s furnaces. The new JFE Wierec facility will process 60 000 tonnes of shredder residue per annum.For several months, Wiederkehr has been operating a high-tech gasification plant in Switzerland which turns shredder residue into energy. The industrial gas recovered at the plant is to be supplied to Swiss cement manufacturer Jura Cement.
