India | E-scrap and hazardous waste recycler Eco Recycling Ltd has been named the most promising company in terms of sustainability and innovation at the third annual New Ventures India Investor Forum in Mumbai.
’India generates close to 500 000 tonnes of e-waste per annum and the same has a tendency to increase in direct proportion to the growing demand for computers and telecommunication equipments,’ comments Eco Recycling’€™s Chairman B K Soni. ‘€˜These hazardous appliances need special attention and expertise to save the environment and valuable precious commodities.’€™
A partnership between the Confederation of Indian Industries, Godrej Green Business Centre, USAID, the British High Commission and the World Resources Institute, the Investor Forum is intended to facilitate investment in businesses which have the potential for substantial growth and for changing the environmental and social landscape. ‘€˜We are really thankful to the forum for providing such a wonderful platform to demonstrate our capabilities of an environment-friendly solution for recycling end-of-life electrical and electronic equipment,’€™ adds Mr Soni.
Recently, India’€™s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh published the country’€™s first National Action Plan on Climate Change, which lays the foundation for future development of India’€™s green economy.
