Daniels clinches US medical waste deal

USA – Daniels, a leading provider of reusable systems for sharps disposal in the USA, has acquired a New York City medical waste facility from Stericycle – making it the second-largest medical waste disposal company in North America.

The Bronx operation will serve hospitals and other medical/dental facilities in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. The US Department of Justice required Stericycle to divest the Bronx facility to Daniels to remedy the loss of competition resulting from the former’s acquisition of the company Healthcare Waste Solutions.

The facility provides a fully-integrated system that ensures safe, cost-effective and regulatory-compliant disposal of medical, sharps and pharmaceutical waste. ‘We manage the removal of the containers and medical waste and handle the disposal in a safe and environmentally sound manner,’ comments David Skinner, Vice President of Daniels Sharpsmart. ‘The fact that the sanitised containers can be reused adds to the environmental benefit.’
