Crowdfunding supports recyclable umbrella

Italy – The makers of a recyclable umbrella, made entirely from polypropylene, have secured the funding required for mass production. The Italian-designed Ginkgo umbrella obtained the investment through the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo.

Ginkgo is the invention of product designer Federico Venturi and mechanical engineer Gianluca Savalli. They were inspired by the fact that, each year, more than 1 billion umbrellas are lost, broken and disposed of improperly.

In order to reduce waste, Ginkgo is completely recyclable; in addition, the injection-moulded umbrella is light, strong and flexible, and is said to be capable of withstanding impacts and high winds without deforming or breaking.
