Congress to focus on Russia’s car recycling programme

Archiv – Russia | In Russia, March 8th marks the beginning of an experiment on encouraging the purchases of new cars in exchange for the scrapping of junked ones. As of this day, the list of the companies which will become participants on the experiment and will be engaged in the ELVs take-back, transportation, dismantling and recycling processes as well as in the sale of new cars has been basically finalised. As of this day, the list of the companies which will become participants on the experiment and will be engaged in the ELVs take-back, transportation, dismantling and recycling processes as well as in the sale of new cars has been basically finalised.
For the sake of the experiment the Government of Russia will allocate quotas for the sale of 200.000 new cars in exchange for the scrapped old ones. This pilot project intended to give support to the national automotive industry will last until November 2010. In the event if the experiment turns out to be successful, it may be prolonged. According to estimations, half of the car fleet in Russia is more than 10 years old and every year not less than 1 million cars reach their end of life.
A conference on ELV recycling will be held April 7th in St. Petersburg, in the SCC as part of the XIX-th international exhibition THE AUTO WORLD.

The tentative topics for discussion include: basic principles of functioning of ELV recycling systems in the world; equipment for ELV metal scrap recycling; equipment and technologies for ELV disassembling and recycling of tires, batteries, used oil and catalytic converters; making and using of products from ELV recycled materials; supply and demand of ELV waste and recycled materials.

The main aim of the Conference is to provide assistance in filling the information vacuum for a wide range of entrepreneurs who need to find one another for buying/selling of equipment, ELV waste and recycled materials; in uniting the ELV market players for the solution of their common problems, discussion of proposals aimed at speeding up of the adoption of the Federal law and putting in place of a system for ELV recycling in Russia.

The Conference organizers are magazine «Retsykling otkhodov» and expo-complex VK «FAREXPO» with the assistance of the Russian Association for Waste Recycling (AWR). The general sponsorship is provided by Metso Lindemann GmbH of Germany. Thanks to the timely financial support from Metso Lindemann the Conference organizers managed to considerably decrease the Conference participation fees and to invite some independent experts and media persons without payment of the registration fees from their part.
Taking part in the Conference will be head of Metso Lindemann, CIS Mr. S.Y. Babushkin with a presentation “Innovations in the field of processing of ELV and industrial scrap”; general director of the Poltava OJSC ’NIIemalkhimmash and NT KOLAN’ Mr. G.A. Koltunov with a presentation on recycling of oil filters; as well as managing director of LLC ’UK’SGMK’ Mr. V.Y. Losyev, director of PPAT OJSC ’Mordovcement’ Mr. A.I. Annikov, general director of CJSC ’METCOM Group’ Ms. S.V. Chamanskaya and others. The deadline for accepting applications for participation is March 25, 2010.
