Battery recycler VALDI acquired by French firm

Archiv – France | Metallurgical group Eramet confirms it will acquire the ownership of battery recycler Valdi, also based in France. The acquisition of VALDI will enable ERAMET to strengthen its positions in recycling in Europe. According to the company, it is a perfect fit with the Group’s existing activities in oil catalysts, of which ERAMET is the world leader through its Gulf Chemical & Metallurgical Corporation subsidiary in the United States.France | Metallurgical group Eramet confirms it will acquire the ownership of battery recycler Valdi, also based in France. According to the company, it is a perfect fit with the Group’s existing activities in oil catalysts, of which ERAMET is the world leader through its Gulf Chemical & Metallurgical Corporation subsidiary in the United States.
Created in 1997 by AFE, VALDI is specialised in the processing and recycling of non-ferrous metals. VALDI operates Battery recycling, Oil and chemical catalyst recycling and other metal waste processing. The company employs approximately 90 people and recorded turnover of Euro 25 million in 2008. Operations are based on two sites in France.

ERAMET has a full set of technological skills for optimum recovery of the metals contained in various types of products to be recycled, whether by hydrometallurgical or pyrometallurgical processes. The acquisition of VALDI is a very positive development for the Group in the recycling field in Europe and an excellent fit with our activities in North America and Sweden.”
The Feurs facility of Valdi is Manufacturing ferroalloys from pre-sorted saline and alkaline batteries and is Refining alloys to specific customer requirements. In 1999 acquisition of the Le Palais-sur-Vienne plant (near Limoges) made it possible to develop resource recovery channels, like manufacturing ferroalloys in a submerged electrode furnace, in which catalysts and waste from special steel production are processed
VALDI claims it is the only European player operating industrial facilities that completely integrate the calcining / melting / refining phases. The two production plants account for an authorised treatment capacity of over 70,000 metric tonnes per year.
