EV battery potential inspires Enva group’s latest takeover

The expanding Enva group, with operations across the UK and Ireland, has acquired British battery specialist SAR Recycling Ltd.

Based in Immingham in England, SAR Recycling is a leading provider of battery collection and recycling services across the UK and Ireland. SAR recovers component materials which are then sold on to smelters and into the plastics recycling industry.

Simon Dick, managing director at Enva says: ‘SAR’s capability is a logical extension for our specialist waste recovery business, particularly in the automotive and workshop sector. We are delighted with the acquisition and are looking forward to working closely with the SAR team to grow and develop the business especially as emerging battery chemistries become more prevalent.’

Arvydas Pocevicius, general manager of SAR Recycling, adds: “We are looking forward to continuing to provide a high-quality, consistent service and to supporting the Enva ethos of further developing our recovery processes and end markets.’

Continuing expansion

In 2017, the private equity firm Exponent acquired the environmental division of Irish firm DCC, which included William Tracey, Wastecycle, Oakwood and Enva for an estimated EUR 250 million. The DCC environmental division was then rebranded as Enva Group.

In 2018, it added operations in additional sectors by acquiring UK specialist Hadfield Wood Recyclers and the Scottish organics recycling firm GP Green Recycling. In December it committed an investment of EUR 14 million in around new 100 vehicles for its UK fleet across the next two years.
